SPRING BREAK COLLEGE READINESS ACTIVITIES
April 2019
For Spring Break 2019, PV students focused on college readiness and thinking about their futures.
On Monday, the first day of Spring Break, our high schoolers visited the University of Chicago to learn about the application and financial aid process and student life during a tour of campus led by a current student.
Tuesday, we hosted a “How to Choose a College” Workshop and Panel where students learned about different factors to consider in choosing colleges through the College Match.com activity. At different stations around the room, the students considered career and major interests, types of academic environments, and costs of attendance. Discussions of which schools best fit the students’ priorities followed. The workshop concluded with a Q & A session led by a panel of former undergraduate students who shared their experiences attending different colleges.
Wednesday was the U of I at Urbana-Champaign campus visit. Tour guides showed us the highlights of their school campuses including classrooms, student unions, libraries, and dorm rooms. The visits helped students get a feel for different campuses to determine what makes a school the right place for them. Students ended the trip with lunch at the Allen Residence Hall and LAR Dining Hall.
Finally, congratulations to all of our high school seniors! May 1st will be National College Decision Day, but many of all of our seniors have already been hearing back from the colleges of their choice, including University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Illinois at Chicago, University of Wisconsin at Madison, Illinois Institute of Technology, and Boston University!
